If BRCC is not serving your high school, one option is to do forensic competition

A forensics club or public speaking club need not have a competition between schools or even within a school.  But a competition or a contest can help participants take their speaking to a higher level.  A club could address whatever speaking needs individual students may have.

There could be various tracks running within the same club.  Some students may want to focus on doing oral interp, declamations, impromptu speaking, humorous speaking or inspirational speaking, all with set criteria and have these presented before the whole school (including parents) as a demonstration or even a judged contest. . ..voice-over for a video while others do impromptu speaking and still others prepare a polished speech.  A club would need to meet about twice a month to have sufficient growth and feedback and preparation.

Interpretation Rules for Dramatic, Duo, and  Humorous Events

Overview: Separate contests will be conducted in Dramatic, Humorous, and Duo Interpretation, each presented as memorized selections and without the use of physical objects or costume. Presentation of all events must not exceed 10 minutes. with a 30 second grace period.

Original Oratory

Overview:  Since the contestants delivering them have written these orations, the judges should consider thought, composition, and delivery. However, since this is a contest in speech rather than in essay writing, the emphasis should be placed on the speech phase. Thought and composition should be considered primarily in the way they are employed to make effective speaking possible. No visual aids are permitted.  The speech maximum is 10 minutes.

Other events for the Tarheel League include Debate;  Public Forum; Lincoln Douglas;  Congressional Debate
