Here below are three books about speaking by Brian Woolf that were available for $20 on Amazon.com. That price has dropped to $15 and even $7 for the two earlier books in the series. But this is no indicator of the quality that remains high. The third and final third book in this "trilogy" hit the presses in the summer of 2019.
The purpose of this book is to help newer speakers speak better … faster. This is achieved with its focus on the three essentials: a clear message, a close audience connection, and helping your audience remember.
The book comprises two parts: a set of 47 tools to build better speeches; followed by 11 world-class speeches, examples of speaking excellence illustrating many of the tools described. The book has a clear, easy-to-understand style, free of technical rhetorical terms. Each helpful tool covers two pages: a half-page description, followed by copious examples allowing the reader to clearly understand the tool’s use in different situations. . .
Do you feel that:
Speaking humorously is beyond you—but you wish it wasn’t?
You are uncomfortable or shy about using humor in speeches?
You don’t know where to begin, even if you wanted to, to add humor to your speeches?
If you nod your head in agreement with any of the above, this book is for you. It will show you how to easily inject humor into your speeches. No, it won’t turn you into an overnight success as a stand-up comic—but it will put you on a path, guided by many examples, which will give you the comfort and confidence to create humor. . . .
This is the latest book that has a great collection of championship Toastmaster speeches that are thoroughly analyzed. It also gives great portions of speeches that offer good samples to practice aloud.
Stan Coss used this textbook in his BRCC classes.
